This three lesson bundle introduces learners to gross and net profit, gross and net profit margin and how they make up the income statement. All topics are broken down so that it is very easy for students to see the logic behind calculations and for the teacher to explain. An activity to draw up the income statement for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop with answers to go through. Lots of calculation practice for all three topic areas with answers to self or peer assess. This set of resources includes 1x PPT, 1x set of group task cards and 1x word case study, this can be delivered over two lessons. Learners are introduced to demand and the various factors influencing demand. We look at movements in the demand curve through price first before going through each factor with relevant examples such as using Messi and Ronaldo adverts to highlight the impact on demand for football boots. We also look at how this can be shown on diagramatically on demand curves. We then go on to ‘Walkthrough Westfield’ which is a group activity, students are given a set of factors which affect demand, and then through our virtual walkthrough we stop at different shops, students have the opportunity to dicuss and rank the factors for that particular shop (encouraging application and evaluation). Students then read a concise case study and answer an 8 mark question, structure guidance and model answer provided for peer assessments. Two links to kahoot quizzes and a box plenary to finish with. Lots of calculation practice to consolidate the formula, we then look at the pros and cons of using break even analysis, this is used for the exam style question which is based on a concise case study of a cake manufacturer. This double lesson introduces learners to the importance of cash for the survival of a business, inflows and outflows are discussed, students seperate inflows from outflows, then they go on to complete a cash flow forecast step by step with guidance on the powerpoint. Formulas are given to help work out net cash flow, opening and closing balance. Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed. We also look at how to improve cash flows, there is a matching task which can be cut out and phsyically matched or written. 3, 6 and 9 mark questions with model answers to build exam skills on the topic. A consolidation lesson where students complete a cash flow forecast with a template on the computer. They can play with the figures to see how it will affect closing balance. This lesson is the second part of ‘The market’ and learners first consolidate knowledge from last lesson on market size and share through a group activity, students are in pairs representing a businesss within a market and must calculate their own market shares as well as the whole market. We then go on to looking at mass and niche markets, with real life examples that students are familiar with. Students have the opportunity to apply this knowledge to a case study on a high end luxury manufacturer - an 8 mark question with structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to look at before peer assessing with marking grids. The best way to bring this topic to life is to play a hotel game where students are hotel owners and try to make the most profit by changing their prices over a period of months - students can see their live profit after each month. This lesson introduces learners to the importance of taking calculated risks for a reward. Example or weighing the upsides vs downsides before coming to a decision to take a risk. An activity which gets students to think about situations in their own life for example, revising vs going out to see friends - students then weigh up the pros and cons (analysis) and finally make a judgement with a depends (evaluation) on whether the risk is worth it. Sometimes risk leads to failure, (not part of the spec but is good for students to know) and in business we must learn to bounce back from failure, so some anecdotes to help understand this. This double lesson introduces learners to the various stakeholders, we start by looking at the different types of stakeholders involved in a business, we then look at their key interests, a choice of tasks on how to consolidate this is offered (two worksheets - matching for lowers and non-matching for more challenge) followed by evaluating the most important interest for each stakeholders. Once students know the interests well, we can start to look at how stakeholders might conflict with each other - a few examples given here. We read a case study on Unilever, students prepare presentations on whether they should focus on shareholders or stakeholders, this is in the form of an essay question so students could answer it after the presentation, or for homework. Finally an engaging group activity where a case study is given and some financial data about different locations, students then work together to calculate and discuss which location is the best to start up. Whole class discussion on the ultimate location. Students can write down their conclusions. This set of resources includes 2x ppts, 3 words files and can be delivered over 3-4 lessons. Learners are introduced to ways of raising capital from within and outside the business. We look at the various types of finance (for this spec) with their pros and cons. We then look at a concise case study of a firm that requires capital but wants to only use internal finance - a 12 mark question on this with structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to use when peer assessing. A peer assessment grid and how it is used by examiners is provided for students to make improves on WWW and EBI. We then go on to consolidating the knowledge with some matching and recall activities before a group activity, students are put into groups and given scenarios that require finance, students decide which sources of finance are most appropriate for scenario and present ideas back to class. Class then decides who the weakest link is (encouraging application and evaluation skills) A case study and 12 mark question on venture capital is included, structure guidance and a concise model answer is provided to help students develop their exam technique. This free lesson introduces learners to the impact of multinational companies, we start by looking at Nike as a MNC, then go on to look at Foxconn (usually a company students haven’t heard of until they realise all their electronics are made there). We look at the pros and cons of MNCs, then go on to read a concise case study on a proposed Dam project by two MNCs in Chile which is met with protests. Structure guidance is given and a model answer to help students with peer assessment and exam technique development. A debate task and box plenary to finish off with.
